Fiction Writing

When I finished grad school, my gift to myself was the opportunity to finally finish a novel--a novel that I'd been mulling over for years. I plunged into National Novel Writing Month and came out the other side with Heart Set Free, the story of a girl and her squid. Here is a silly drawing, and here is an excerpt.

For my second NaNoWriMo, I wrote The Sky Mother's Children, a fantasy story about four kids on a quest to save their world from war--unless they end up starting the war themselves. There's a lot yet to be written, but here's a summary and an excerpt.

I've also written a heap of short stories, although none of them are online yet. There's one about mayflies, one about rats, and one about cockroaches. Don't they sound lovely? But there's also one about young love on windy roads, and another about witches on swing sets. Maybe I'll get around to posting them someday; for now, here's my rewrite of the movie Ponyo.
